Our Story

As long as I can remember, my family has cut up our own deer. 

My dad always led the charge at our family deer camp in northwestern Pennsylvania. The camp was started by my grandfather for his son and three sons-in-law to use. Now several generations of us use the camp, which is a lot of fun but leads to the problem of how to properly store a large harvest until we have time to process it. 

We decided that a walk-in cooler was the answer—it would let us store our deer until we were able to fit processing into the other demands on our time. This led to creation of the Frigideer. Frigideer pairs a window air conditioner with a CoolBot thermostatic controller that sends the A/C unit into sub cooling, holding temperatures down to 34 degrees even on the hottest days of summer. Hang a deer inside and it stays cold until you are ready for butchering. 

Frigideer extends the hunting season by letting us wait until it’s convenient for our family and friends to share the work and camaraderie of processing. If those cutting boards could talk, the stories they would tell! Every current hunt, past hunt, near miss and deer camp prank gets relived each year while we are processing our harvest. 

Our family’s camp Frigideer stores 22 or so deer a season. And because it’s easily transported, it also gets borrowed to use at backyard parties, weddings, and even our community’s annual “fly in” breakfast.
